Transfer to Secondary School

At Avenue, we are committed to ensuring that pupils are well prepared for Key Stage 3 and beyond. Strong and effective links with local secondary schools enable pupils to take part in regular transition activities, including visits from older pupils and opportunities to become familiar with expectations of secondary education. Transition is carefully planned and embedded throughout the year so that pupils develop the confidence, independence and resilience needed for the next stage of their learning.

As a result, pupils move on to secondary school feeling confident, well prepared and ready to succeed. They demonstrate positive attitudes to change, increased independence and a strong understanding of expectations, supporting a smooth transition and continued success in their education.

Transfer to Secondary School September 2026

You must complete the online application process for your child which must be received by your child’s home Local Authority by midnight 31st October 2025 You can apply online from 1 September 2025.

Secondary Schools hold open evenings and open days during September and October. Some of the selective schools, however, hold their open days in the previous summer term.
